Narrandera Shire Council Submits Grant Application for Detailed Business Case to Support Water Treatment Plant Upgrade

Narrandera Shire Council is pleased to announce the submission of a grant application for funding through the National Water Grid Fund 2025 to support the next phase of the Narrandera Water Treatment Plant project. This critical phase involves the development of a detailed business case that will provide the comprehensive analysis and planning needed to support the construction of a new water treatment plant in Narrandera.

The detailed business case will focus on several key areas necessary for the successful transition to the construction phase including:

  • Conducting in-depth evaluations of the preferred lagoon sedimentation treatment option, as identified in the scoping study.
  • Developing detailed concept designs, costings, and procurement plans to ensure a smooth transition to Design and Construct contract.
  • Undertaking geotechnical investigations, environmental assessments, and risk management planning.
  • Securing all necessary preliminary approvals.

The business case will deliver the essential planning documentation and preliminary design to ensure that the water treatment plant upgrade can proceed efficiently to construction.

The project scope for this phase is critical to ensuring that the Narrandera Water Treatment plant upgrade is delivered effectively, minimising risks and maximising benefits for the Narrandera community.

Narrandera Shire Council has applied for funding through the National Water Grid Fund, which offers a 50/50 funding match. The total cost of the business case phase is anticipated to be up to $1.8 million and is expected to take approximately 20 months to complete.

"This is a major step forward for the Narrandera community," said Narrandera Shire Council Mayor, Cr Neville Kschenka.

"A new water treatment plant will not only improve the quality and reliability of our water supply but also contribute to the long-term sustainability of the region's infrastructure."

The project is a key component of Council's ongoing efforts to address water quality issues within the potable water supply network, as outlined in the Community Strategic Plan.
