Just 20 kilometres south of Grong Grong off the Old Wagga Road, you'll find Berembed Weir. While camping isn’t allowed here, it’s ideal for shore-based fishing along the Murrumbidgee River. This scenic spot is also a key piece of the region’s history. Built in 1909-10 by the NSW Department of Public Works, Berembed Weir played a vital role in the development of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA). The weir’s primary purpose was to divert water from the Murrumbidgee River into a main canal, which then supplied the MIA and surrounding areas with much-needed irrigation.
